My Thrilling Experience at Cameron Highlands - Visiting Must-Visit Destination in Malaysia

Cameron Highlands is one of Malaysia’s most famous highland retreats, offering a unique blend of breathtaking scenery, cool weather, and unforgettable attractions. Back in 2017, during the cold season, I had the privilege of exploring this mesmerizing destination. From a thrilling jeep tour across the lush tea plantations to indulging in fresh strawberries and visiting iconic tourist spots, my journey was nothing short of amazing.

Unforgettable Cold Weather in Cameron Highlands

One of the most surprising things about my trip was how cold it was. At an astonishing minus 12 degrees Celsius, it was an unexpected but welcome change from Malaysia’s usual humid climate. It was so chilly that water left outside overnight in a kettle froze solid. No fan or air conditioning was needed, making it the perfect destination for those who love cold weather.

The Scenic and Challenging Drive to Cameron Highlands

Getting to Cameron Highlands is an adventure in itself. The winding roads leading up the mountain demand careful driving, as sharp curves can be hazardous. I still remember seeing a Mercedes stuck inside a sewer, a clear reminder of the need for caution. Along the way, we stopped at a bundle shop to grab jackets, which became essential for the freezing weather.

Where did I stay? - My Experience at Copthorne Hotel

Most hotels in Cameron Highlands do not have fans or air conditioning, simply because they are not needed. The naturally cool air ensures a comfortable night’s rest. We stayed at Copthorne Hotel, a well-known accommodation offering a fantastic view of the highlands. A memorable highlight of our stay was playing Resident Evil on the PS4 with my little brother, definitely not your typical highland experience!

One of the best meals we had was the hotel’s signature steamboat dinner. The combination of fresh vegetables, warm broth, and local ingredients made for a heartwarming meal, perfect for the cold weather.

Best Things to Do in Cameron Highlands

Cameron Highlands is packed with exciting attractions for visitors of all ages. Here are some of the best places we explored:

Boh Tea Plantation - The breathtaking rolling hills of this tea plantation made it one of the most scenic spots on our trip. A jeep tour through the estate was an exhilarating way to take in the views.
Bee Farm - It was fascinating to watch bees in action and learn how honey is produced.
Cat House - A paradise for cat lovers, featuring various breeds. The highlight? A Ragdoll cat sneezed on my phone while I was taking a selfie with it!
Sheep and Rabbit Farms - This was my first time touching a sheep, and I was surprised by how thick and greasy its wool felt. Meanwhile, the rabbit farm was a haven of adorable, fluffy bunnies waiting to be petted.
Lavender Garden - The soothing scent of lavender filled the air, creating a peaceful and picturesque atmosphere.
Time Tunnel Museum - A must-visit for history lovers! This museum transported us back in time with exhibits featuring vintage newspapers from the Japanese invasion of Kota Bharu, P. Ramlee’s original ID card, and a classic Jacob’s biscuit tin. The old-style coffee shop replica was another nostalgic touch.

One of the best things about Cameron Highlands is the ability to walk for hours without breaking a sweat. The cool, fresh air enhances every experience, from sightseeing to enjoying a meal. Whether you’re an adventure seeker, a history enthusiast, or a nature lover, this highland retreat has something for everyone.

Cameron Highlands remains one of my favorite travel destinations in Malaysia. From its stunning landscapes to its unique attractions, every moment there felt magical.
